The Kanawha County Judicial Annex
The Kanawha County Judicial Annex, built in 1983, serves as the hub for the county’s court system, housing Circuit, Magistrate, Juvenile, and Family Courts. The Annex also includes the clerks’ offices for each court and facilities for Mental Hygiene workers and other related services.
Court System Overview
Kanawha County’s judicial system is staffed by:
- Eight full-time Circuit Judges, each with an assigned Judicial Services Bailiff
- Five Family Court Judges
- Thirteen full-time Magistrates
Each day, the Annex welcomes around 1,300 visitors who come for various court proceedings and services.
Security & Operations
The Judicial Services Deputies and civilian security staff assigned to the Judicial Annex are responsible for maintaining secure access points and ensuring the safety and orderliness of the building. They coordinate with judges and staff to ensure smooth operations during hearings and proceedings.
- Judicial Service Deputies work closely with the Regional Jail Authority to ensure the timely and safe transport of inmates to and from court appearances.
- Judicial Service Deputies are present during all hearings and court proceedings to maintain security.
Parking Information
For those visiting the Judicial Annex, a parking garage is conveniently attached to the building, accessible via Goshorn Street. Public parking is available on the second level, just past the entry booth.
