Drug Units
To fight the growing threat of illegal drug activity and organized crime, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office actively participates in specialized enforcement units dedicated to making our communities safer.
Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT)
The Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT) is a multi-agency task force made up of law enforcement officers from several agencies across the Kanawha Valley, including deputies from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
MDENT focuses on investigating drug trafficking and manufacturing operations throughout the region. The team works closely with local, state, and federal agencies to dismantle drug networks and disrupt the illegal drug trade at every level.

S.T.O.P. Team
Sheriff’s Tactical Operations Patrol
Formed in 2009, the S.T.O.P. Team (Sheriff’s Tactical Operations Patrol) was created to take direct action against the rising tide of narcotics-related crimes in West Virginia and across the nation.
What the S.T.O.P. Team Does:
-
Targets criminal drug activity
-
Intercepts narcotics distribution networks
-
Gathers street-level intelligence
-
Investigates leads tied to violent crimes, property crimes, and conspiracies
-
Follows up on anonymous drug tips from the public
Team members are highly trained in drug enforcement, traffic law, and criminal investigations, often working irregular hours to see cases through from start to finish. Their flexibility allows them to follow up on leads that standard patrol deputies may not have the time to pursue.
S.T.O.P. team members collect intelligence in person, online, and through community tips, playing a key role in identifying and removing drugs from our streets.
