Prescription Drug Take-Back
When prescription drugs go unused they often are kept in one’s house and can pose hazards to society. They can be stolen, illegally abused, accidentally taken by children, or improperly disposed. A 2008 study estimated more than 250 million pounds of pharmaceuticals are flushed every year, contaminating water supplies and endangering the environment.
The KCSO wants to keep prescription drugs from being abused.
No names are collected, no forms are filled out. Anonymity is the plan.
Prescription drugs in liquid and pill form are accepted, but illegal drugs are not.
No appointment is needed, but the drop box is only accessible during business hours (8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.), Monday through Friday.
The drug take-back box is located inside the lobby of the Legal Process/Training section of our office, on Goshhorn Street, in Charleston, WV.
